Rudy Giuliani and Sarah Palin joined forces with a frenzied crowd of Republicans in St. Paul to supposedly lay out the McCain agenda. What they did instead was lie repeatedly and without shame, mock Barack Obama, the media and community organizers.
Through the blood boiling up into my eyeballs I saw a silver lining: They mocked community organizers. Both Giuliani and Palin repeatedly joked about the organizers and the rabid audience couldn't get enough; laughing derisively, waving signs and frothing at the mouth.
Was this really happening? Were thousands of people who earlier claimed Americans needed to lift themselves up by the bootstraps without the help of big Government mocking the efforts of community organizers? Were they Laughing at those trying to make a difference? Imagine if Democrats reacted like this at their convention when someone on stage snidely joked about the troops (which didn't happen and would never happen). Imagine the "They Laugh at Soldiers Don't They?" type advertisement we'd see 24/7 on the 24/7 news. It would have been a gift from the Democrats to the McCain campaign.
Democrats were given that same gift last night. And here's how the ad could play (hit the jump, I promise you it's worth it):
Narrator: Community Organizers across America help keep families together by promoting parent effectiveness and providing marriage counseling.
Community Organizers across America help relocate or rehabilitate victims of domestic abuse. They help ensure children are raised in a safe and friendly environment and they provide communities with the services needed to keep them afloat.
Community Organizers are currently helping families in New Orleans who were affected by Hurricane Gustav. The Republicans said they were taking off their "Republican" hat at their national conventional in St. Paul, Minnesota and putting on their "America" hat.
Community Organizers are currently working on bringing devastated communities in Louisiana back together as Republicans have resumed their partying in St. Paul. The same communities GOP delegates asked Americans to help.
So why are they laughing at and ridiculing those lending a hand?
Cut to Giuliani's line about Community Organizers and Palin's two "jokes" about them and the wild guffaws from the Republicans in the audience
Narrator: Community Organizers in small towns and big cities alike are banding together and lending a hand, because people are hurting out there. John McCain and Sarah Palin should know that that is no laughing matter.
