I really don't have time to write a diary tonight.
But I can't not.
So, I'll make this short.
After consecutive hits from Tropical Storm Fay, then Hurricanes Gustav and Hanna (and with Hurricane Ike bearing down on her), already-struggling Haiti is now in desperate trouble. (There is a story about this up on the AP right now here if you need background... also here) If you know anything about Haiti, you probably don't even need to read it through, you can probably imagine... this is nearly as bad as it gets.
A few here have diaried recently about Haiti (for example, here and here). Please go there for more details. As I wrote above, I really don't have time to do any more right now, but I felt compelled to at least do this. (I wish I could do more.... hopefully tomorrow.) My goal here is to elevate this issuecrisis and keep it from disappearing from your radar.
So I'll close with a simple plea: Here is Unicef's Haiti page. Please do whatever you can.
You are needed now.
(As my friends in TakingITGlobal say, the world's problems really are our problems.)
Update [2008-9-5 1:10:4 by shock]: From the BBC story on this: "A UN official says 600,000 people may need help..."
