Thanks for clicking through my link. I posted how shielding Palin from a free press hurts democracy on my blog, Heartless and Brainless. Please join me below the jump for the full story as well as video of Tucker Bounds failing to find a reason why Sarah Palin should wield the power of the American military.
Before I begin this post, I need to explain my background a bit. I’m an African American who spent the last 11 years living in Iowa City, Manhattan, Brooklyn and Washington D.C. I mention this to provide context that even I’m shocked at how cynical the Republican Party has become.
The Bush Administration and the Katrina response have made it difficult for McCain to gain the black vote. The optics at the Republican Convention didn’t help either. 36 black delegates out of 2380! That’s slightly darker than Wasilla: 61 out of 5469. (1.5% to 1.1%) Perhaps that’s why the current Republican Party doesn’t understand their lack of diversity.
I’m not here to lament the echo chamber the elephants became. This post is to mention how the McCain campaign expresses as much contempt towards all 300 million Americans as the 13 million African-American community. The McCain campaign announced that Sarah Palin will not conduct interviews until further notice, perhaps through Election Day. Why should the American public learn the policy positions of the potential vice-president? What makes Americans think they can judge the merit of someone who could become Commander-In-Chief? She’s only backing up a 72-year-old former POW/double cancer survivor.
Snark isn’t even a strong enough response. Here’s video of Campbell Scott’s gullycore dissembling of McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds. She had the temerity to ask what made Palin qualified to control the largest military in the history of civilization. I’ll let the McCain campaign speak for themselves:
In summary, McCain’s new advisors performed a complete 180. They were getting traction with their "No experience/Celebrity" attacks so they decided to fight fire with fire. The problem is that Obama proved his readiness through a grueling 18-month crucible of the Democratic primary and over 20 debates. He just appeared on The O’Reilly Factor for schnoo’s sake. Republicans may complain that Obama is inexperienced and not worthy of the highest office. That’s certainly their opinion but, right or wrong, at least it is an informed decision. Let’s hope McCain/Palin’s ghastly precedent does not become weaved into the American political fabric.
In the comments, I list a long post that Christopher via Snoopy wrote about his experiences of Palin as his governor. It originally appeared on the Los Angeles Times website. I fully understand how ridiculous and sloppy an attribution this is. It’s also the most informed piece I have read about her. The McCain campaign needs to let the public judge the merit of her ideas. Otherwise, fake bikini photos and Enquirer articles about her marital affairs will fill the media vacuum.
