I read a blog post somewhere today where the commenter used the word "stunned" to describe her feeling watch the unveiling of Palin, but more importantly, the media coverage of it.
I've felt the same way. Stunned. It's a bit disheartening because I KNOW people are out there, typing away, sending email, writing blogs, trying their damndest to call out the media on their horrific coverage of this election. It doesn't seem like they're listening. Every time I hear "liberal media" I want to scream and run my head into the nearest brick wall. It's been unbelievably stunning.
It reminded me of a song by my absolute FAVORITE artist....
I'm terrified of some of you Kos folks, I'll just go ahead and tell you that upfront. I LOVE this site and read here daily.. sometimes obsessively and one thing I've noticed is that you all can be quite cruel to someone who makes a mistake or writes a diary you think is unfit for human consumption. LOL Soooo... I'm quoting Ani Difranco and I'm hoping to god I did it right... I hope I quoted in the right format, I hope I didn't offend Ani or anyone else by not following proper protocol... I SOOOO don't wanna get yelled at. ;o)
However, the words in this song are so poignant that it was worth it to me to venture out and risk making a mistake in properly crediting Ani to try and share my own thoughts regarding the stunningly bad coverage in the so called "liberal media". It's frightening how we're conditioned over time. In talking to people here in Alabama, and trying to email some sense into my redneck Texas cousins who ALWAYS believe Fox News and believe that President Bush REALLY cares about their interests, I'm reminded of how manipulated we are... And I'm sad that it works so well.
In the song on her album "Reprieve", the background noise is the sound of a life support machine... Very chilling...I wish there was a Youtube video of the song from the CD. If you've gotten this far in my diary, may I just ask that you read the words of the song...
Then tell me.. what do we do?
"Decree"
Step up and forfeit your frontal lobe
To the sexed up strobe of celebrity
Never mind that the nanoseconds in between
Are some of the darkest darkness that you've ever seen
Keep your eye on my finger
And listen to the sound of my voice
Get your subliminal decree
And your false security
Be all that you can be
Be all that you can be
In hospitals and schools
Airports and banks and bars
Big ones on street corners
Little ones driving by in cars
And glowing through countless
Bedroom curtains at night
That 30k tone
And that pale blue light saying
Daddy knows best
Yes, this is the news
In 90 second segments officially produced
And aired again and again and again
By the little black and white pawns
Of the network yes men
While the stars are going out
And the stripes are getting bent
And cancer, the great teacher
Has been opening schools
Downstream from every factory
Still, everywhere fools are
Squinting into microscopes
Researching cells
Trying to figure out a way
That we can all live in hell
Well, step back, look up
You'll see I'm dimming the sun
But you won't, will you?
Oh, that's a good little one
'cause daddy knows best
Yes, this is the news
In 90 second segments officially produced
And aired again and again and again
By the little black and white pawns
Of the network yes men
While the stars are going out
And the stripes are getting bent
The stars are going out
And the stripes are getting bent
Deep, huh?
