Given that Senator Feingold is being given a hero's welcome (again) here at Daily Kos, I'd like to take the opportunity to highlight the rank hypocrisy the senator from Wisconsin opened himself to.
Remember this, way back when John Ashcroft was nominated for Attorney General?
[...]it was important to the political future of Democrats not to stand against a nomination for purely ideological reasons. Feingold also urged his colleagues to give deference to the president in choosing like-minded Cabinet members.
So, of the Democrats who voted against Tim Geithner's appointment to be Treasury Secretary, guess who showed up siding with the Republicans?
That's right:
Even more interestingly, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) opposed Geithner, joining three liberal Democrats: Tom Harkin (IA), Russ Feingold (WI), and Robert Byrd (WV).
Yes, Senator Holier Than Thou decided to oppose a Democratic president's choice to help lead us out of this recession...and for no real good reason, either.
Just to recap: voting for a Republican president's nominee for Attorney General - a person with a record of far-right extremism in the U.S. Senate before he was nominated, and someone who would go on to begin the degradation of the Justice Department - is okay, while voting against a Democratic president's nominee for the Treasury Department - whose only noticeable fault was forgetting to pay taxes, a fairly common mistake - is okay.
That doesn't compute. Senator Feingold, please feel free to explain yourself if you get a chance to take a break from all the fawning you're currently indulging yourself in.
