And I sent him a copy of Paul Krugman’s recent editorial as well. Perhaps he will read it.
I thought he could use one. A spine that is. You know, I hoped that after he had a solid majority of friends on his side of the aisle, he would have found his spine by now. But alas, it must still be lost.
So I faxed him a spine from this page of spine jpegs.
You can fax one as well. Senator Reid’s fax number is: 202-224-7327.
I also sent him the following letter.
Dear Senator Reid:
I know that Rush Limbaugh wants our new and popular president to fail, but I figured that a newly empowered Senate, with a golden tongued president and a vastly Democratic House would be able to quash the rants of the gasbag Limbaugh and his minions in the Republican Senate for more of the same failed policies of the last 8 years.
While President Obama told it like it is to the House Democrats just 2 days ago, the Senate Democrats have largely caved to the tax cut touting Republicans. As Paul Krugman states when asked about the Senate version: "The short answer: to appease the centrists, a plan that was already too small and too focused on ineffective tax cuts has been made significantly smaller, and even more focused on tax cuts."
So Senator Reid and the Senate Democrats, where are you spines? Why are you incapable of articulating effectively the arguments against the Republican voodoo economics? Watch Obama’s speech for pointers. Get in front of the cameras and play united offense for a change.
It is game time ladies and gentleman. Act like you care on this one. Force a filibuster. Then if you have to back down to get something passed and it does not work you will be able to at least share blame with the Republicans. As it sits now, this is a Democratic bill. It is not bipartisan. You need to pin this watered down Republican laced bill where it belongs. The only way to do that is to have a showdown by forcing them to filibuster.
Political expedience is jeopardizing the long term health of our economy. The additional tax cuts need to go the way of the Republican’s that lost their senate seats this November and much of the spending needs to be added back. [For a list of what was cut from the bill.]
Senator Reid, please take this fax of a spine with you to the Senate chambers as a reminder of what a sizable majority of Americans demanded last November--an end Republican economics!
