According to my Congressman, Representative Eric Cantor, "an overall crisis of confidence is the key factor in the economic issues facing the US." www.starexponent.com/cse/news/local/
Really? Well Congressman, according to published reports 11,500 private-sector jobs from your district have been lost. (And counting: Wyeth won’t say how many, neither will Altria.)
Eric Cantor’s own Henrico county is losing more than $7 million in direct annual-tax revenue from five major corporations that are shutting down or cutting back their operations. http://www.timesdispatch.com/... and http://www.roanoke.com/...
Congressman Cantor’s district is losing more than jobs; it is losing whole companies, like Saxon Mortgage, Circuit City, and Qimonda. The doors are locked, the parking lots are empty. These organizations, and many like them, are gone. When the economy turns around, they will still be gone, and so will the thousands of jobs their demise has cost Mr. Cantor’s district.
Most were "white collar" jobs that offered modest severance packages, so it will be a few months before those unemployed Accountants and Managers and IT folks really begin to run out of money. What then? As a professional recruiter I have personally spoken to too many of these individuals and they are terrified. They can’t find a new job because there aren’t any where near enough jobs to go around and they can’t relocate because they can’t sell their houses. They know their money will run out soon. Perhaps I should just tell them that their only problem is "an overall crisis of confidence."
So hear is my question. Why doesn’t someone in the main stream media ask Congressman Cantor about what’s going on in his own home town?
Why doesn’t someone ask him about the fact that his personal and his family’s income came from TrustMor Mortgage, a company that until recently specialized in those infamous "sub-prime" products?
Why does he constantly get a pass from the likes of Brian Williams, Chris Matthews and George Stephanopoulos?
