Sorry for the short diary- I'm doing a research project for my Clinical Nutrition class on cheap and easy ways to improve the diet of college students, especially during this recession. College diets, even during good times, lack substance, and when you run into attitudes like this:
"I'll worry about it when I'm older. They make drugs like Lipitor, which are supposed to clean your cholesterol if you eat too much instant food."
It makes you wonder what we can do to better educate college students, who have neither the time or money to dedicate solely to eating well.
I want to make comparisons for easy ways to change eating/shopping habits to bolster both body and wallet. For instance, a Starbucks Frappacino (13.7 ounces) has 290 calories, almost five grams of fat (half saturated), and 46 grams of sugar. That's the nutritional equivalent of almost four scoops of chocolate ice cream.
Post what you ate during college, and if you have any suggestions on substitutions, or easy ways to eat well for less, add them, too. I've also included a poll with the most stereotypical college foods- if you ate 'em, tally 'em up, too!
While I hate to beg for rec's, if you think this is a worthy cause, I'd sure appreciate 'em long enough to get some good data, anyway. Thanks!
