Maybe it’s me. Maybe I have gone crazy without actually noticing the decline in my mental abilities. I think my wife would probably have mentioned something unless she has gone crazy and I didn’t notice that either. Anyway, the reason I am doubting my sanity is because of all the mixed messages I am getting from all of these people who are supposed to be in charge of our country. If it was just a couple of things, I probably wouldn’t question it, but it seems to be every important issue that is just all mixed up. Here are some examples of what I am talking about.
Political Ideology –
I used to think that socialism was a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole. Apparently, I was mistaken (so was Dictionary.com).
Socialism is using government funds to assist any citizen who is not a corporation, and also rendering assistance to corporations if you are a Democrat. Also, using tax money to rebuild crumbling infrastructure is socialism.
Well. Who knew?
Mathematics –
I learned addition and subtraction when I was four. I thought I was really good at it. I even teach a class or two on it at work. I was so completely wrong about this also.
If you increase the budget in defense spending (and you are a Democrat), you are gutting the military budget.
Also, if you receive a tax cut (from a Democratic administration), you are paying more taxes and should protest.
Criminology-
I used to think that if you were in a prison, and you had to be transferred to another prison, you remained in custody during the transfer. Apparently not.
If you have someone in prison and you want to put them in another prison, You "can’t put them in prison unless you release them." So you have to release them into the public and then re-catch them prior to putting them in the new prison. Kind of like hide-and-seek.
Also, I thought breaking a law was grounds for punishment under that law. Silly me.
You can break a law, as long as the ends justify the means. So, I can rob a bank as long as I give the money to a child who needs the money for an operation. I can also torture someone as long as the information I get is considered valuable.
Patriotism-
I used to think that patriots were proponents of their country. "America, love it or leave it" and all of that stuff. Wrong again.
You are a true patriot if you want to secede from the country (that you love?) when the majority of the democratically elected government is not from your political party and they institute policies that are not in alignment with your ideology.
Marriage –
I have been married three times. My current wife will be the last one I ever have (one way or another). I would like to think that I know a little bit about marriage and divorce and all of that. I thought it was money problems, personality conflicts, or infidelity that caused the failures of my marriages. Boy, I am so glad it wasn’t.
Apparently, it was the direct effect of gay people getting married that caused the failure of my first two marriages. From what I can gather, the sanctity was somehow affected and it caused the catastrophic failure of my marriages.
All this time I thought it was the Navy and Katie Hanson. Boy, am I relieved.
I was wrong about so many things. So, I am either an idiot or I am losing my mind. Maybe I should cut back on the Oxycontin.
