Many contributors to Pootie Diaries combine their interest in their critters with other interests. One of my interests, outside my interest in animals and other things environmental, is collecting quotes and you will find some scattered throughout this diary.
Another interest has to do with researching and finding new pieces of information. There are bits of those facts throughout the diary, too.

Penguins
Did you know? Penguins have the highest feather density of all birds. One man has even found a way to “count” (estimate) how many feathers a penguin has. Short, interesting blog on his findings.

Cats/Pooties
Did you know? A cat has 32 muscles in each ear. They have very sensitive ears and noses.
Cats' sense of hearing is remarkably superior to that of humans.
Cats' ears are uniquely designed to draw sound into the ear canal, which enables them to hear sounds like a mouse rustling in the brush 30 feet away. By the same token, their ears are more sensitive to higher amplitude of sound. It is common knowledge that humans' hearing can be compromised by repeated exposure to loud music. In my opinion, cats are more susceptible to potential deafness from the same cause.
Quote is from the link that follows. Also, much more cat information at that site.

Jumping
The ability of cats to jump varies from breed to breed. Some cats can jump up to six times their own body length. It's agile body has inherited a mixture of suppleness and explosive strength that is a formidable combination. It's love of the trees and excellent eyesight give it an advantage in stalking prey that most predators do not enjoy. Similarly it's ability to take to the high ground is an efficient protective measure.

The link that follows leads to an interesting site about unique locations of birds nests. There is one on an elephant sculpture is especially funny. (You will need to scroll down a little to find that one.)
