It seems the drug companies have agreed to put up $80 billion over the next ten years to ease drug costs for seniors.
Maybe this is legit. Maybe I'm just too cynical. Maybe...
It's a way to keep on getting outrageous prices for needed medications by keeping the government from negotiating or regulating them.
Oh, there's that darned cynicism again.
Eight years of Bushrovian tyranny will do that to you.
What bothers me is that, according to the AP none other than Senstor Max Baucus is at the heart of this deal. That makes me wonder what the real purpose of this sweet-sounding deal is, from the perspective of the drug companies.
From the same article it appears the deal is only good if healthcare reform is passed, but exact details of the deal "...remained unclear...".
When details remain unclear on a deal that Max Baucus put together on healthcare, I get very, very, suspicious.
It also appears that the good Senator from Montana is trying to seek similar concessions from other parts of the same industry that made up such a large part of his campaign contributions. Perhaps it's my cynicism again, but "concessions" like this do not sound to me like a road to either a public option or single payer.
Please tell me I'm wrong. Please tell me that the AP article and the others I have read on the topic are skewed. Please tell me the complete details of the deal are available on line, and it's a good deal for the US citizens who currently suffer from lack of healthcare.
Or, email or call your elected officals and tell them that we want real healthcare reform with a public option. And that if the drug companies still want to kick in $80,000,000,000.00 after that we will thank them for their kindness.
I did. Your turn. YELL LOUDER!!
