my local paper had 3 LTEs today, all supporting Canadian healthcare and denouncing Shona's position.
I was very please to see 3 letters today, and I hope the remainder of the week will see more published. All were in support of our Canadian healthcare; there were none that agreed with Shona in any way.
this is one
I know that Canada's healthcare has its problems, and wait liests can be one of those. Such problems pale in comparison with those of the United States, where one-third of the population, uncovered by any insurance program, cannot even be guaranteed a spot on a waiting list. ...... Our neighbour's denial of insurance coverage to so many of its vulnerable citizens is a decades-old American tragedy. It is sad to see a Canadian take her stand with those whose only interest is to see that tragedy continue.
Here is a sentence from another one that I particularly enjoyed:
She has now subjected us to more of those hateful and fact-twisted commericals on US TV channels decrying Barack Obama's plan to give al Americans an equal opportunity for health-care coverage.
As this newspaper usually tends towards a very conservative viewpoint (strange, since it is owned by the Toronto Star, which is very liberal) and the original article was lacking in a great deal of facts, this response from the public is very heartening.
