I would like to say that I went to a Town Hall meeting that Blue Dog Heath Shuler had. The title of my diary is a lie, sorry. He has not had a town hall but he sure was nice enough to have a nice friendly meeting with some teabaggers from Asheville and Hendersonville. You can go read their report Here It's about half way down the page.
Thursday evening he met with 9 teabaggers in private. They "warned" him about voting for health care reform and he in turn asked for their suggestions. How sweet of him! In closing, Shuler did tell them that he would vote "No" on HR 3200.
I truly am sick of these Blue Dogs bending over backwards to please Republicans who have no real interest in passing meaningful reform. My family is one that would benefit from a public option, tremendously. My wife has a chronic disease and we cannot afford private health care and won't be able to. We have large hospital bills that we were gouged for and there is no consumer protection. I'm afraid that regardless how much guano loco that these teabaggers show, that they will end up getting their way because so many of our politicians are bought and paid for.
I am a precinct chair in NC-11 and spent quite a bit of time knocking on doors and making calls to get Heath elected. I expect him to vote for his "family values" crap but I hoped he would be a "better" Democrat than he has been. Most of our hard workers in this county support the public option and are fed up with Shuler. And we are a rural county, I can imagine how ticked Buncombe county is. Without grabbing pitchforks or trying to compete with teabaggers, does anyone have any ideas on how we could apply pressure to Shuler as a united group? We've been making the calls and sending emails. We need something stronger!
Thanks
