Arlen Specter -- always there when we didn't need him...
I'm pleased to announce that Congressman Joe Sestak has received his first Union endorsement in the race for US Senate. USW Local 10-1 was also the first Union to endorse Joe in his 2006 run against the odious Curt Weldon. Good omen, maybe?

United Steelworkers Local 10-1 Is First Union To Endorse
Congressman Joe Sestak (PA-07) For United States Senate
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – The United Steelworkers (USW) Local 10-1 announced today that they have endorsed Congressman Joe Sestak, from the 7th District of Pennsylvania, in the 2010 Democratic Primary for the United States Senate. The endorsement vote of the membership took place at the regularly scheduled August membership meeting following a unanimous recommendation of the Local’s Executive Board.
"USW Local 10-1 was proud to be the first Union to endorse Joe in his initial campaign for Congress in 2006, and we are twice as proud to lead the way in the Senate race" said Trainer resident Jim Savage, President of USW Local 10-1. "The Congressman’s tireless efforts on behalf of the working families of the Seventh District have surely earned him this endorsement. We’re sure that our endorsement will be the first of many from the labor movement.
"Senator Specter’s support of the anti-worker Bush agenda was very troubling for us," continued Savage. "His recent conversion to the Democratic Party seemed much more like ‘feeling the heat’ rather than ‘seeing the light’ as far as we were concerned."
"USW members are hard workers and so is Joe," stated Local 10-1 Vice President Nancy Minor, who resides in Clifton Heights. "This endorsement was a no-brainer for us."
Go get 'em, Joe!
