It seems to me that Democracy means that people do not have to lose their jobs for expressing a political opinion. My guess is one big reason many people are apathetic is that they perceive that it is not worth the risk to express themselves politically. Apparently judging from this ridiculous Whole Foods boycott this perception is correct.
And now a substantial number of so-called progressive bloggers wish to stifle Democracy and demand political apathy from John Mackey. What is good for the goose is good for the gander and nothing good will come from intimidating a citizen for publishing a political opinion.
It has also been noted by the progressive bloggers that Whole Foods is shipping its food long distances. They would prefer to buy from local farmers.
In the Chicagaland area if everyone was eating only locally grown food, most of us would be eating corn and very little else, and genetically modified pestified and not all that wholesome corn at that. THe idea that we should all buy locally grown food from farmer's markets is not feasible. There are not near enough small farms to feed the cities.
I just watched the movie King Corn. It is pretty clear that most of the food Americans eat is crap.
So the real question is whether the food sold at Whole Foods is higher qualtity food than that sold at the conventional supermarket. I am not an expert but in my considered opinion Whole Foods has better food, and I have read nothing in these nonsense boycott diaries that tells me different.
I will continue voting for better food by shopping at Whole Foods.
UPDATE: I think my next diary will be on HR abuse.
