Connecticut isn't Alabama. Or Mississippi. Or so many other areas. It's a progressive area. I've worked and interned only for progressive organizations and candidates in my young life, some of which you guys have brought up on here and like a lot.
I was born in Miami Florida. I've lived here most my life, and it's a city where most people speak Spanish first.I'm Hispanic. It was my first language, being the son of immigrants who escaped communism not from Cuba but Nicaragua. It's what I speak here at home. I'm much more fluid and adept at English.
I have never gotten so much as a ticket. So this type of video REALLY pisses me off and makes me lose hope for the future.
This youtube video occurred at Representative Jim Himes' Town Hall in Norwalk, CT.
A gentlemen steps up to a mic, and asks in broken english, much like that of my mother or father, to ask in his native tongue. Congressman Himes speaks great Spanish. As Bob from my left nutmeg notes:
Fairfield County, which comprises a large part of the 4th congressional district, has roughly 11% Spanish-speaking residents, and according to the 2000 census only 76% of the population considers English their first language.

This to my is damn well more important than a ton of what's happened. It's mixed in anti-reform with pure, unadulterated racism. It's the equivalent of what used to happen all across the South with blacks. And I think it's pathetic that this is happening in America, a place where the first amendment doesn't say what language you have to speak in order to qualify for first amendment rights. I hope you folks post this around and say this cannot and should not be tolerated in this country.
Note: I don't know how to make youtubes work on kos, sorry about that!
