New video from MediaMatters: Beck's Witch Hunt: The New McCarthyism, featuring Beck and his hero, Joseph McCarthy, finishing each other's sentences:
Brilliant.
Beck so loves his witch hunts for commies, marxists, socialists and all Democrats generally!
But what happens when Beck's pals are fired for making ethnic smears on their radio program? Beck leaps to their defense, screeching "Witch Hunt! Suppression of Free Speech! Politically correctness run amok!"
Censorship is wrong, Beck says.
Beck's CNN interview on the "witch hunt" situation - Glenn Beck, May 14, 2007:
BECK: This is where we have been so for so long, and this is really -- this is really not about much other than a lot of special interest groups. There is -- there is a real feeling, I think, on the left -- they couldn't get the Fairness Doctrine out, and so what they're trying to do is to shut people down. If you look at the people that are on the shock radio list, you will see that Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity -- and I am on that list. Gee, I don't know the last time that I was doing sex calls. This smacks of a leftist witch hunt in many ways.
But later in the segment, Beck also suggested that "it seems to be OK" for "people [to] market in graphic, graphic sex," but not to make ethnic jokes:
BECK: [W]hy are we discussing ethnic groups as if it's the only thing? Shock jock -- hang on --
CHETRY: Because this is what got two people fired, this is what -- that's why, Glenn, because --
[crosstalk]
BECK: I don't mean to be crass, but we are talking about people who market in graphic, graphic sex, and that seems to be OK.
May I rephrase?
this is really not about much other than a lot of special interest groupsangry, racist teabaggers. There is -- there is a real feeling, I think, on the leftright -- they couldn't get the Fairness Doctrine outwin the election, and so what they're trying to do is to shut people down. If you look at the people that are on the shock radio listBeck's blacklist, you will see that Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and I am on that list the President and most members of his administration are on that list.
The teabaggers are a special interest group who are trying to suppress free speech, censor the President of the United States and all Democrats, and enforce their own view of political correctness. (Oh yes, they also want to overthrow our duly elected government because they lost the election.)
Is it an accident or a coincidence that Beck's followers are using the very tactics Beck publicly rails against? No. Beck knows what he is doing. This is planned and structured just as well, if not better than, anything Karl Rove ever did. Beck cries "witch hunt" in order to shield his special brand of hate speech from being criticized or stopped. But he's not afraid to use a witch hunt as a sword to silence others.
And that's just one aspect of what he is doing. Another is to play the Nazi card. There is no tactic so revolting or abhorrent that Beck will not use it.
I'm sure we'll being seing a lot of Hitler signs and Nazi signs and symbols at today's teabagging orgies of hatred and racism. Beck would have you believe that the wingnuts just spontaneously and organically siezed on these themes in response to the actions of the Obama administration. Wrong. Again, playing the Nazi card is a deliberate, carefully chosen tactic on Beck's part. He has been working and shaping the Nazi/Communist/Socialist attack for years.
The evidence speaks for itself:
May 2007 - Beck said Gore using "same tactic" in fight against global warming as Hitler did against Jews
(Aside - this is a frightening insight into where Beck has been looking for tips on honing his mass manipulation skills.)
May 01, 2007
BECK: I go on vacation for three days, and I decide to take my family away. And I'm there at the beach, and we're reading. And I take -- my wife takes some magazines and stuff, and we take the books for the kids, and I take The Years of Extermination [HarperCollins, March 2007]. It's a new book. And I just -- 'cause it's, like, 800 billion pages thick. I'm just not going to have the time to read it. And I'm doing some research right now for some other thoughts that I have that are probably six months away from percolating.
And I'm reading this book trying to do some research. And what this book is, is how do you get people to kill people? How do you get -- not just Germany -- all of Europe to kill the Jews. To round them up and kill them. How do you do that? That's what this book is about. And it is a phenomenal...
... -- what was the first thing they did to get people to exterminate the Jews. Now, I'm not saying that anybody's going to -- you know Al Gore's not going to be rounding up Jews and exterminating them. It is the same tactic, however. The goal is different. The goal is globalization. The goal is global carbon tax. The goal is the United Nations running the world. That is the goal. Back in the 1930s, the goal was get rid of all of the Jews and have one global government.
You got to have an enemy to fight. And when you have an enemy to fight, then you can unite the entire world behind you, and you seize power. That was Hitler's plan. His enemy: the Jew. Al Gore's enemy, the U.N.'s enemy: global warming.
So, I read this paragraph -- and I must have read it, like, five times because I just kept going, "Oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh." And I think I'm in a unique situation because I've heard from so many people, you've heard from so many people calling in and saying these things on the show.
Here's how they did it. First thing they did was they found a group of scientists that believed in eugenics, which basically is, "Breed your way to better people! Eugenics! Get rid of the defects, get rid of the races that aren't so strong. Breed a master race." For as insane, as insidious, and as out-and-out evil as it sounds today, believe it or not, in the 1920s and 1930s, that was cutting-edge science. And they said, "That is the answer. We can breed a master race." That's were the master race comes from: science and scientists. It was called eugenics.
So, Hitler took the master-race idea and eugenics -- an accepted, mainstream scientific belief -- and he got all the biggest scientists to come out and say, "This is it. This is the answer. It's the damn Jews. We get rid of the Jew bloodline, and we're fixed."
Now, how did you convince all of Europe to do it? You needed to have fear. You needed to have the fear of starvation. You needed to have the fear of the whole place going to hell in a handbasket. Which -- do we have that fear now with global warming? I mean, they're telling us things in Al Gore's global warming special that are not true, that the seas will rise 20 feet. Even the U.N. says that's not true. So you got to have the fear, we're all going to die.
Then you get the scientists -- eugenics. You get the scientists -- global warming. Then you have to discredit the scientists that say, "That's not right." And you must silence all dissenting voices. That's what Hitler did. That's what Al Gore, the U.N., and everybody on this global warming bandwagon -- all the way to RFK Junior, who has called me a fascist for doing it -- [NOTE: BECK COMPLAINS OF BEING CALLED A FASCIST, WHILE HE IS IN ESSENCE IS CALLING OTHERS NAZIS] all the way over to the global warming special that happened over in London a couple of weeks ago that is fantastic.
They are now trying to -- are they suing or have they moved up to the arrest part yet, Stu [executive producer and head writer Steve Burguiere]? Where they are trying to punish the people for putting another view point out there [BECK KNOWS ALL ABOUT PUNISHING PEOPLE WHO HAVE A DIFFERENT VIEWPOINT! HE DOES IT EVERY NIGHT] -- on global warming. Then, the last step was to bring it into the schools. But here's the part that I read over and over again -- they didn't bring eugenics into the science classes. They brought it into the science class, but then they also brought it into the math class. They brought it into the literature class. They brought it into the history class. They brought it into P.E. They brought it into every single class. "This dirty Jew is trying to overcharge these Germans. How much of a profit will the Jew make by swindling money out of the Germans?" That -- those were actual problems that were introduced in math class.
What set the alarm bells off for me was, how many calls have I received in the last month from people saying, "My daughter was in art class. She's watching an Inconvenient Truth"? I just had a call last week, a guy says, "My son was in math, and he's watching Inconvenient Truth. What does An Inconvenient Truth have to do with math?"
My daughter is getting it as well. If you don't get on this train, the train is going to pull out of the station, and it's going to be moving at such a high rate of speed, you will not even be able to see the train. It has been foretold forever that that good will not understand bad, and bad will not understand good. [I AGREE BECK! I DO NOT F'ING UNDERSTAND YOUR SPECIAL BRAND OF EVIL.]
We are getting to a place where the average American is being fed so many lies at such a high rate of speed on so many different topics from immigration to our own government to even race relations to political correctness on Islamic extremism to global warming, that it is going to become an avalanche, and you're not going to be able to get way from it. [WHAT WAS THAT COMMENT ABOVE ABOUT NEEDING FEAR THAT THE WHOLE PLACE IS GOING TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET? ISN'T THAT WHAT YOU KEEP TELLING PEOPLE, BECK, EVERY SINGLE NIGHT?]
...
Oh, wait, wait, wait. I got a really good line that we can use. It's almost like it's from the Inconvenient Truth. Your very existence may depend on it.
There is so much to unpack in that extended quote above. Many diaries worth. I think the light bulb really went off for Beck when he read that book. He appears to have been practicing and working the tactics he learned from it for the past several years, and now he has polished his strategy to perfection. It is the "best" of McCarthy and Goebbels rolled into one doughy pantload.

Glenn Beck, June 28, 2004:
After comparing author/documentarian Michael Moore's film Fahrenheit 9/11 to "the [Joseph] Goebbels, the Nazi propaganda, where they would take truths, half-truths, and out-and-out lies and mix them all together," nationally syndicated Clear Channel radio host Glenn Beck proceeded to twist and distort facts three times on the June 28 edition of The Glenn Beck Program.

MediaMatters
It truly boggles the mind. It is clear how hard Beck is working to push the Nazi/Communist meme. And it has been going on for years, not specifically attached to any one policy or person - but to any and all progressive policies and any and all Democrats.
It is very easy to see the parallels between Beck's words above and the tactics for brainwashing and manipulation found in The Years of Extermination, the book Beck bragged about reading. Eugenics. School indoctrination. Racial fear. The whole place is going to hell in a handbasket. These are the staples of Beck's rhetoric. It's all there.
WHY IS THE MEDIA IGNORING BECK'S NAZI-MONGERING?
Recall what happened when Sen. Robert Byrd mentioned Hitler to warn against manipulating the law in the context of the "nuclear option" debate - without even going so far as to expressly label Republicans as "Hitler" or "Nazis" (a line Beck has crossed regarding Democrats many, many times):
"Senator Byrd's inappropriate remarks comparing his Republican colleagues with Nazis are inexcusable," Santorum said in a statement yesterday. "These comments lessen the credibility of the senator and the decorum of the Senate. He should retract his statement and ask for pardon."
Abraham H. Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, said yesterday that Byrd's remarks show "a profound lack of understanding as to who Hitler was" and that the senator should apologize to Americans.
"It is hideous, outrageous and offensive for Senator Byrd to suggest that the Republican Party's tactics could in any way resemble those of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party," Foxman said.
LINK
Byrd referenced Hitler in the filibuster debate on March 1 by exclaiming that, like proposed Republican efforts to ban judicial filibusters, "Hitler never abandoned the cloak of legality. ... Instead, he turned the law inside out and made illegality legal." Hannity responded on the March 2 edition of Hannity & Colmes by calling Byrd "unhinged," condemning his Hitler remarks as "atrocious" and "disgraceful," asking, "Could a Republican ever get away with comparing Democrats to Adolf Hitler?"
link
Yes, you read that correctly. That is Sean Hannity decrying Sen. Byrd's use of the word "Hitler".
With regard to Byrd, the March 2 Inside Politics featured the video of his remarks, and host Judy Woodruff reported that "[t]he GOP is lambasting Senator Robert Byrd for apparently drawing a comparison between Senate Republicans and Adolf Hitler." Woodruff also quoted Republican National Committee chairman Ken Mehlman's response to Byrd. Later in the same show, Schechner and CNN political producer Abbi Tatton further discussed conservative bloggers' reaction to Byrd's remarks.
