Apologies for the extremely short diary--my time is very limited today--but there's something important Democratic activists and donors should be aware of.
The DSCC is making fundraising calls today, one of which I just received on my cell phone. I told them in no uncertain terms that I was not happy with how the Democrats in the Senate were behaving, that Harry Reid seemed completely unable to hold his caucus together, that the elevation of the Senate Finance Committee in its importance was very disheartening, and that while I had given to the DCCC and DNC, I wouldn't be giving to the DSCC at all if Baucus, Conrad and Landrieu couldn't be kept in line and the Senate couldn't pass a public option at least via reconciliation.
Money talks louder than words. If the DSCC hears a near-unified front in this regard when making their fundraising calls, I guarantee you it will make a difference.
The one thing politicians care most about is getting re-elected. They can't get re-elected without money and volunteers.
If you tell the DSCC you won't be giving them anything unless a good bill with a public option passes out of the Senate, you'll be applying pressure where it matters most.
Make sure they hear the message, and hit 'em where it hurts.
