Irving Kristol, the godfather of neoconservatism and father to Bill Kristol, passed away today in hospice.
He was most famous for being co-founder and co-editor of the Public Interest from '65 to '02, as well as founder and publisher of the National Interest from '85 to '02.
More below the fold...
Irving Kristol, the noted neoconservative died at the age of 89 today.
A former liberal who switched to founding a political movement that would eventually take hold of the White House with it's candidate George W. Bush and the neoconservatives within his administration, Kristol saw his dream of a new political movement holding the office of President of the United States.
I'm not a big fan of his, nor even a small fan. But, this man was one who helped shape and form political opinion moreso than many other political commentators during the past 50 years, or dare I say in the 20th century.
This quote from the Washington Post best describes Kristol:
Irving Kristol, 89, a forceful essayist, editor and university professor who became the leading architect of neoconservatism, which he called a political and intellectual movement for disaffected ex-liberals like himself who had been "mugged by reality," died Friday at the Capital Hospice in Arlington.

Sorry for the short length of this diary, but I'll continue to add information to this post as needed. In the meanwhile, please post your comments and thoughts regarding the man, his political philosophy and how neoconservatism has impacted you since it rose to prominence during George W. Bush's Presidency.
**EDIT**
I should note that many neoconservatives were gaining traction during the Reagan presidency with the likes of Wolfowitz, Perle, Bennett having played roles in his adminstration.
