Bye Bush, and welcome Obama!
Go to Oregon, todays state in this diary. I think we will have very interesting race for governor of Oregon. And im optimist for this race.
In last years only recently defeated senator G Smith and House Rep G Walden can win any race in Oregon for republicans. The old generation of republicans is totally out of politic in Oregon. And last november, they lost the senator, who was defeated by J Merkley, Speaker of the State House, and good candidate, but without experience in state level races. For me that like tell more democrats in this state can win G Smith in future elections.
Now seems G Smith can run for Governor in 2010. This is a serious threat, because a former senator seems strong candidate. Like we can see in next links, the people feel some danger with G Smith possible return, but, the people not think he is one of most solid republicans who can return in blue states. G Smith appear in third and first links:

2009-2010 ELECTIONS: For defense in races in blue states II.

This is the list of possible candidates:
- John Albert Kitzhaber: WA OR 1947 Governor of Oregon 95-03.
- Peter Anthony DeFazio: MA OR 1947 USHRep 87- . Lost for Senate 96.
- David Wu: TAI OR 1955 USHRep 99- .
- Earl Blumenauer: OR 1948 USHRep 96- . Lost for Mayor of Portland 92.
- Kurt Schrader: CT OR 1951 USHRep 09- . Lost for OR House 94.
- Les AuCoin: OR 1942 USHRep 75-93. Lost for Senate 92.
- Michael Joseph Kopetski: OR 1949. USHRep 91-95. Lost for House 82 and 88.
- Kate Brown: SPA OR 1960 OR Secretary of State 09- .
- Phil Keisling: OR 1955 OR Secretary of State 91-99.
- William Bradbury: IL OR 1949 OR Secretary of State 99-09. Lost for Senate 02.
- John Richard Kroger: OH OR 1966 OR Attorney General 09- .
- Ben Westlund: CA OR 1949 OR State Treasurer 09- . Lost for Governor 06.
- Randall Edwards: OR 1961 OR State Treasurer 01-09.
- Peter Courtney: PA OR 1943 OR Senate President 03- .
- Steven Novick: NJ OR 1963 Lost for Senate 08.
In Oregon not have Lieutenant Governor. In this state, Secretary of State succeed governor if governor left the office.
From this list, the candidates who sound more for governor are Kitzhaber, De Fazio, Bradbury (running), Courtney and Novick. This last two included in the list because maybe they run.
If we try make the same list with republicans, we have only 3 names, G Smith, G Walden and former House Rep J Bunn, who lost for House in 1996 and for OR House in 2008. For that is logical republicans in this state like G Smith run. They not have more candidates who can make decent races.
Seems democratic party need now strong candidate for can defeat again G Smith with warranty.
