There are wingnuts, and then there are certified wackos. And when it comes to a working strategy, could it be up to us to help form the landscape?
As I watch the Situation Room today, Wolf is reporting that there are a rising number of threats to our beloved new president. It's a shameful world that we live in, but we are all to aware of the extrordinary desire of desperate lost souls to attempt such a horrible scenario against Barack Obama.
As frustrating as it is, we all know that the threat exists, and I, just like you (hopefully), sleep better knowing that the president is in good hands by an ever more capable Secret Service. Massive kudos to them and all other security personell that enabled inaguration day to be pulled off without a single arrest. But if it came down to it, I'd take a bullet too if it meant keeping it from reaching our president. Call it volunteer service if you'd like.
I think we are in a situation here where it really is going to take the all of us to make sure this guy stays safe. If you hear of something, don't hesitate to report it. If you see anything suspicious at a rally or event, don't be shy to break out the heroics to protect our new president. To hell with illegal wiretaps. YOU be the illegal wiretap. Attend a Klan rally and take notes. Join the Aryan Nation chatrooms and draw some fools out (just don't say anything stupid - all credible threats are thoroughly prosecuted even if they are presented as a decoy or a joke). Go to prison just to keep tabs on the AB if you have to!
And here's what really burns my chili: What's the difference between a hate group and a terrorist organization? Wasn't the KKK deemed an illegal terrorist organization at one point? As far as I'm concerned, both groups comprise persons that want to kill others for ideological reasons. Am I right? What's worse is that publicly declaring them outlaw groups now would make things even worse. Even facism works in reverse...
Now here's some notes for the Secret Service, FBI, et al. I know you have the best and brightest working for you, and these tactics have already be considered. Setting up online decoys to help draw out ill intented individuals is certainly a good idea. Maybe you can even employ civilian assistance in some of these matters. Infiltrating hate groups is very necessary. The SPLC is no doubt working with you on this, and keep up the good work.
Perhaps government agencies can demand the Media back off a little to help. Seeing the first African American president hit the ground running on TV 24/7 is potentially inflaming to supremacy groups, and to the socially inept. Us Obama fans can watch footage and get updates online where those no longer willing to participate in our great democracy aren't being force fed things they loathe to see.
But the bottom line here is clear. Keep the POTUS safe at all costs. Obama is about to do the world some serious good, and it all may come unravelled if we fail him in this regard.
