The media coverage of the I/P fighting was bad already.
quick jump
But this morning, it got ridiculous. Here's the MSNBC article I'm reading. Here's what it has to say about the violence in Gaza:
For a second straight day, Israel said it suspended is Gaza military operation for three hours to allow in humanitarian supplies.
Before the lull on Thursday, Israel killed at least eight people in Gaza, including five militants, raising the death toll from its 13-day offensive to 696 people, according to Palestinian medical officials. The offensive is meant to halt years of Palestinian rocket attacks on southern Israel, but with roughly half the dead believed to be civilians, international efforts to broker a cease-fire have been gaining steam.
Israel is so freaking awesome for taking a 3 hour break of not killing people in Gaza to let in humanitarian aid. Wow. Talk about the least you can do. Then we get some stat about most of today's deaths are militants. As an aside, I don't see a number listed for how many militants their attacks created. THEN, I have to read Israel's reason for doing this. "The offensive is meant to...", oh STFU. We know your side of the story. It's been going on for weeks. Quit it. You're just trying to pound it into our heads that this is defense now...
I clicked on the article because the headline was "Rockets from Lebanon his Israel." So, what does the new front on the War-That-Will-Destroy-Israel-If-They-Don't-Kill-Hundreds-Of-Civilians look like?
Retirement home hit
One of the Lebanese rockets went through the roof of a retirement home in Nahariya, about five miles from the border, and exploded in the kitchen as some 25 residents were eating breakfast in the adjacent dining hall. One resident suffered a broken leg, another bruises, apparently from slipping on the floor after emergency sprinklers came on.
You're fucking kidding me. I broke my leg once. I have also had bruises. But I haven't died. Not once. Not 696 times. Although I haven't experienced death, I have a feeling it's a great deal worse than a broken leg and bruises.
So now that Lebanon has dived head-long into this, let's hear the death to Israel rhetoric from the Lebanese government that we're so accustomed to:
Lebanon's government, wary of conflict, quickly condemned the rocket fire.
Oh, so no problem. Some loner who was pissed about Israel killing 700 people in Gaza shot a few rockets that broke a leg and bruised someone (well, not the rockets per se, but the sprinkler system they activated... err, the water that came out of the sprinkler system). I assume Israel will see this for what it is and work with the Lebanese goverment to try to secure themselves from this threat.
Israel fired mortar shells into southern Lebanon in response.
...
Israel has repeatedly said it was prepared for a possible attack on the north since it launched its bruising campaign against Hamas militants in Gaza on Dec. 27. Israel has mobilized thousands of reserve troops for such a scenario.
Of course. And just for the record, I would like to add that Israel's 'bruising campaign' against Hamas is not the Israeli military walking around giving Charlie Horses to members of Hamas. Since we've been talking about bruises, I thought I needed to clarify that. 696 dead. Not bruised.
