I thought I'd share a little story that happened last night. There's a local bar that has a blues jam once a month and as a keyboard player I usually show up. I should mention that this is deep in the heart of Texas.
Last night I was feeling ornery and wore my Obama shirt. I wore it a lot before the election, but somehow I feel it matters even more now. (I should also mention I'm 6'5" and 220 lbs., I wear what I want.) I wasn't expecting any comment or problems because we're at this bar all the time and everyone knows my politics.
And there were none. But when I got up to play, the guy leading the jam (a nice guy but a transplanted Texan, the most dangerous kind - born Texans don't generally try to impress anyone with how Texan they are) eyed me and said "Oh, you voted for Obama, did you?" which got a "Hell, yes!" from me. He kind of shook his head wonderingly and said, "Well, I GUESS that's all right."
Long pause. "Anyone else here vote for Obama?"
Half the room started cheering. Deep in the heart of Texas.
"Oh," he said, taken aback. "Well all right then." Not quite the reaction he was expecting.
That's it, not a great story, but I found it inspiring, hope you do too.
