Just perusing some back issues of my local paper The Grass Valley Union the other day and found an article about our local carpet-bagging Rep. Tom McClintock - who doesn't live in the district - that caused me to do a double-take.
Carpeting bagging Tom who lives in Thousand Oaks, CA over 500 miles from the district he jokingly "represents" in Northern CA - CA-04 - announced i.e. took credit for a $1.1 million grant from the Department of Homeland Security for a new fire station for the volunteer fire department in Rough and Ready, CA. - a place carpeting bagging Tom couldn't find on a map if his life depended on it.
The article stated that McClintock has been working with the fire department to secure the funding, and in June wrote a letter to W. Ross Ashley of the Federal Emergency Management Agency to obtain the grant.
The hard-working volunteers of Rough and Ready put in hundreds of hours every year providing vital services to the people of the town and Nevada County, McClintock said in a prepared statement. These funds will help them meet the growing demand for fire suppression and life support services.
We thank Congressman McClintock for obtaining this vital grant, Rough and Ready Fire Department Chief Don Gannon said. We have worked hard to raise money for the new station, and the congressman's assistance means we will now realize our dream of building a modern facility to provide firefighting and emergency services to the people in this area.
But the real story was in the final sentence.
The grant was awarded through U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency and Assistance to Firefighters Fire Station Construction Grants funded under the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Action.
Needless to say carpet-bagging Tom voted against the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Action along with the rest of his "just say no" buddies in the House. Nobody thanked President Obama for the stimulus package that made the grant possible.
