Darn...my hometown didn't get the Olympics. I was one of those who was like 6 in one hand and a half a dozen in the other meaning it would not have phased me one way or the other. However, when I woke up this morning and everyone was at the Daly Plaza all pumped up and ready to go I started to get into the spirit. Not to mention I'm pretty competitive. I don't want to lose ANYTHING. So, when we lost in the first round after the shock I was pissed. We are the USA!!! After I calmed down from feeling rejected I was just pretty bummed. In that moment I was feeling really really (more so than usual) patriotic and thankful that I live in the good U S of A especially since we stand against all other nations with one voice. Riiight? Atleast that was what I thought.
The other night I was sitting down studying US history with my boys and we were discussing the Revolutionary War and my youngest was like "he didn't love this country enough to fight in that war" (I've got some work to do on that front). That was pretty jarring to me. I mean my community has been fighting for their piece of the American pie since the days of slavery but in that moment with my sons I realized that sometimes we are so close to all of our internal battles in the hopes of continuing to make this a more perfect union that we lose sight that with all of our faults as a nation we are still a GREAT nation. Where else on earth would I want to be? My answer to that is absolutely no where. I want to be right here in America.
I thought that was the way of it with all Americans. Politicing used to stop at the waters edge but alas no. The modern day Republicans again are pushing the envelope and taking things too far. Almost to the point of what's that word starts with a T and ends with an N? TPM has a really sad article about some republicans trying to undermine the official policy of the United States with regard to foreign countries link. Elections have consequences and this is pretty pathetic.
We should continue to passionately fight for everything we believe if that is what we think will make this Nation great but I also think that we as in all Americans...Republicans, Democrats, and Independents need to shut this crap down!! Rachel talked about it on her show last night.
Like Alan Grayson said over the past few days folks are looking for intelligence but they are also looking for folks with guts!! So, I'm saying elected officials have some guts and call out fellow unpatriotic and unAmerican congressmen and women. Stop dancing around it. If that doesn't work arrest their as#@s as the enter onto US soil!
