I wanted to reward those members of Congress who voted for the healthcare bill and against the Stupak amendment.
Yesterday, I watched the House healthcare debate and vote. While I believe that the House vote is a good and worthwhile accomplishment, I also believe that the House managed to accomplish this goal in such a way to bring little credit to itself. The reason I believe this is because of the Stupak amendment. 64 Democrats voted for this amendment and of the 64 who voted for the amendment 26 voted against the bill.
At first I wanted to find a way to punish those who voted for the amendment. However, I soon thought that a better way would be to reward those who voted correctly. 220 people voted for the bill and 194 Democrats voted against the Stupak amendment. I thought a good reward would be a donation to those who voted against Stupak and for the bill.
Since 220+194=394 I decided to go to ActBlue and give $3.94 to reward good behavior. Since I live in Iowa, and all 3 Democratic Congressman voted for the bill and against the amendment, I gave $3.94 to Bruce Braley, Dave Loebsack, and Leonard Boswell.
I realize $3.94 is not much but I am a small donor and I wanted to make my donations symbolize how I felt about the actions in the House yesterday. If you like this idea please share it with others.
Thank you.
