Mind you that's not a clinical assessment (as I'm not a doctor and haven't examined him). There's a quote: "The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over and expect different results."
That is precisely what Joe LIEberman is doing re: the public option. The Washington Monthly's Steve Benen points out:
In a nutshell, reform advocates are saying, "Giving people the choice of a public option is likely to help consumers by cutting costs and promoting competition." Lieberman is effectively responding, "We haven't done things that way in the past."
Of all of the arguments the opponents of a public option have offered, "We haven't done things that way in the past" is probably one of, if not THE worst. If anything it's an argument FOR the Public Option because in case Joe LIEberman missed it, Americans voted for CHANGE in 2008. That means stop doing the same sh*t and expecting a different result.
Of course, this should be expected by LIEberman as he is refusing to go on Rachel Maddow's show and have an honest debate about the Public Option because "she's got a point of view."
Yet, as Mike Stark points out, LIEberman has no problem going on Hannity (last I heard, he had a point of view too).
So not only is he insane, he's a coward.
The Washington Monthly also pointed out the evolving talking points Sen. LIEberman had on the public option. They range from "the public doesn't want it" (which is a LIE):
When asked what kind of health care bill Congress should pass, 51 percent of Americans said a bill that contains a government-run health insurance plan, or "public option." Sixteen percent said a bill without a public option, while only 26 percent said they want no bill at all. Seven percent did not know or had no answer.
Democrats (by 72 percent to 13 percent) and independents (by 47 percent to 15 percent) prefer a bill with a public option over a bill without one. Among Republicans, just 23 percent want a public option, 20 percent want a bill without it, and 51 percent want no health care reform bill at all.
to it will balloon the national debt (which is a LIE):
The CBO said the Senate plan, to be unveiled later in the day by Democratic leader Harry Reid, would reduce the deficit by $127 billion in the same period and extend coverage to 31 million uninsured people, the aide said.
So not only is he insane, but he's a coward, and a liar. Maybe he should stop hanging out with Republicans so much.
