There's a diary at the top of the rec list, telling us that we'd be making a big mistake if we weren't enthusiastic about the next election.
The diary refers to the results of a DailyKos tracking poll, one that shows a huge enthusiasm gap.
Voter Intensity: Definitely + Probably Voting/Not Likely + Not Voting
<div class="indent">
Republican Voters: 81/14
Independent Voters: 65/23
DEMOCRATIC VOTERS: 56/40
</div>
The diary then tells us that the Republicans are mostly responsible for this enthusiasm gap:
I know we want results. I want results. I know we're angry at people in our party. But two years is not enough, apparently, to convince Republicans out there to give up.
There's no use trying to reason this out. Republicans have chucked reason out the window. They're not trying the altogether impossible task of trying to win on the merits.
They've been twisting the American people up emotionally, trying to get everybody back to thinking in their intuitive terms of liberals as the bad guys, the folks who aren't in Washington to solve problems, but to spend taxpayers money and burden them with more costs.
The diary tell us that we're also partially responsible, because:
We've gotten soft, complacent, maybe not on the issues, but maybe on what it takes to keep our power against the aggressive assault of a rival party that thrives on their opposition to us.
Riiiiiggggghhhhttttt.
Reid, Pelosi and the Obama Administration have failed to use their control of the Executive branch and their huge majorities in the House and Senate....because the Republicans won't let them AND we haven't made enough phone calls..... to plead with the Democrats to deliver on the agenda that got them elected.
When the Democratic leadership caves to pressure from well paid lobbyists, it's because....
two years is not enough, apparently, to convince Republicans out there to give up.
We've gotten soft, complacent, maybe not on the issues, but maybe on what it takes to keep our power against the aggressive assault of a rival party that thrives on their opposition to us.
The Obama Administration has made secret concessions to Big Pharma, because....
two years is not enough, apparently, to convince Republicans out there to give up.
We've gotten soft, complacent, maybe not on the issues, but maybe on what it takes to keep our power against the aggressive assault of a rival party that thrives on their opposition to us.
If we don't get a robust public option in health care reform, it won't be because the Democratic leadership has screwed the pooch on their most important legislative initiative since Medicare. It won't be because Obama hasn't used his oratorical power to engage in a vigorous campaign to support what should be his keystone, first term accomplishment.
No, if we fail to get a robust public option, it will because we have failed to make enough phone calls and write enough letters to convince our elected Representatives to read the f#cking polls and see that, even after an unprecedented disinformation campaign, the American people still want public health care.
In the final analysis, what this diary says is:
It's not that the Democratic leadership has let is down.....we are letting them down.
Riiiiiggggghhhhhttttt.
