WILX TV in Lansing is reporting that Mayor Virg Bernero is considering a run for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in Michigan. Currently, Bernero serves as mayor of Lansing. He won reelection earlier this month.
Is this a good thing? Who knows? The establishment candidate, Lt. Gov. John Cherry is charisma-challenged and, possibly too identified with current Dem. Gov. Jennifer Granholm.
Another possible Dem. candidate, Andy Dillon, sided with Republicans during the recent state budget talks. Many Democrats consider him a traitor for his actions.

Bernero is starting late. However, he has a populist appeal that could energize the race. The mayor has received much attention for his working-class slam on Fox News:
Will he run? We'll see. But this could be an early sign of a populist Democratic movement in the Midwest.
