They have screamed that over and over again... about every bill that has come thru congress so far. Had they read the bill? From their screeds of inaccurate and almost funny misinformation, it would appear that they hadn't. So when the House's HCR reform bill came out, I had an idea. I shared it with my roommates, they gave me weird looks. I shared it with my fellow college democrats, they kinda chuckled and shrugged. Not exactly the encouragement I was looking for. But what's the "Idea"?
Well I am going to make you wait until the second paragraph for that... But its kind of similar to this thing. I'll be honest, I waited to share this with Dkos, kinda of hopeful my college democrats would jump on it, and we'd get some much needed attention by doing this... but it doesn't appear to be in the cards. So I figure the next best place to pitch it would be... here.
So wait, what is my idea? to read the bill? Yes...
... and no. You see, my idea is kinda different: We read it... and record it. Into an audiobook. I tried it out, and I was able to get through the first 3 pages (all table of contents) in around 5 minutes. At that rate, it would take me about 33 hours to do the whole thing. But, instead of taking hours and hours, it could take a few. If 100 people, taking the 1990 page bill and dividing it into 100 tracks. that's roughly, 20 pages each. We make an audiobook collection of the bill, and send it to the republicans. This way they don't have to worry about reading all those pesky words! They can just relax in their offices and listen to the bliss that is health care reform. I have a feeling it'll be comparable to listening to hot water over stones.
Assuming there are no copyright issues here, we could make copies of these recordings and send them to congress. Send them to those who are voting no and have reasons thats are fantasy. Send them to media sources that seem to feel it is their job to parrot those pieces of misinformation. Send them to the leadership to show that at least someone has read it. Send it to the DNC to use as advertising.
There are so many mutations that this could take. Once completed, someone out there in the tubes could make an auto-tuned version. We could create something that is internet fodder for seconds or, dare I dream, minutes!
All we need to do is download the document. Divide it into chapters. Record it using garage band or whatever PC's have that is comparable. (I use garage band just because its simple, not necessarily because its quality)
We have a community. We have numbers. We can, together, do things that would take an individual days or weeks in minutes or hours.
So is this something that you find interesting?
I admit, this might be most effective on the final health care bill. Maybe we should wait. Its all yours now. Discuss!
