Hoorah; we won the House and Senate and the White House. What good is that when those we elect (or re-elect, Connecticut) don't serve the way their constituents were told they would?
Hey, I live in South Carolina, after having lived in Louisiana, Alabama and Georgia, so it's not as if I've had the pleasure of electing a Democrat to represent ME to begin with. That being said, the Democrats that DO get elected are fairly worthless.
Much as the "teabaggers" are sick of voting in Republicans who spend like well-tipped drunken whores, it's time for the powers of the Democratic party to see that THEIR base is unhappy with them. Folks, I've never more felt like this country needs a third party than at this moment.
Why?
Well, we voted in a President who gave us "hope" that we'd see REAL healthcare reform; instead he sat on the sidelines and watched his "team" fumble the ball, toppling all over each other and only injuring themselves in the process.
His Congressional minions have cowered under the weight of the minority, tossing aside REAL healthcare reform; no public option, no medicare buy-in, no antitrust exemptions dissolved; nope, instead we're looking at a "mandate" where we're all "forced" to buy health insurance, whether we like it or not, can afford it or not. I fail to see how the average American citizen benefits, but I SURE see how the health insurance companies do. Bravo, Dems, bravo.
WHERE are the candidates and representatives that WILL stand up for what they believe in, instead of sweating out their next re-election bid? Where's the COURAGE in a candidate who'll vote for what's best instead of what'll keep them "safe" in their incumbency? Where are the PROGRESSIVES in the more progressive party, I ask?
I for one have had enough; no Democrat gets my vote just "calling" themselves a Democrat; no Democrat (or Congressional campaign fund or party campaign fund, either) gets MY donation until I run across a candidate, committe or party that TRULY represents MY ideals.
I want affordable healthcare for all Americans; I want same-sex couples to enjoy the same rights and benefits as married heterosexual couples; I want gay men and women to be able to serve in this country's military without fear of being dismissed; I want WALL STREET to operate in a more transparent nature, and I want windfall taxes for those jackals, too, while we're at it.
I want EDUCATION to be as high, if not higher, priority than defense defense defense; I want to see a REAL environmental movement from the supposed "greatest nation on earth" that isn't put to shame by the likes of Brazil; I want felons from the prior administration called to task and in front of a judicial process if laws were broken.
What's the POINT in having a two-party system if the party I choose to support so fervently lacks the fight, the punch, the teeth, the backbone, that the other party comes to battle with? Listen up Democratic power base - if you can't make your party tough enough for me and the masses that think like me - don't think we can't make a party of our own. Grassroots efforts are easy to develop in the internet generation, and I'm already hearing plenty of noise from progressives like DKos, Olberman, Maddow, etc., to make me think there's enough "punch" from the likes of them and I to put up more fight than we're getting from the wet noodles we have in Washington now.
