Medicare Part D
Who? A Republican controlled Congress and White House.
The good: Prescription Drugs for the elderly under Medicare.
How? Carte Blanche for drug companies.
Who gets screwed? The Middle Class.
Health Care Reform
Who? A Democratically controlled Congress and White House.
The good: More poor people will probably be able to get insurance.
How? Carte Blanche for the insurance companies.
Who gets screwed? The Middle Class.
Congratulations Republicans, you've proven that if health care reform passes as it is now, in the Senate, Democrats are no different than Republicans. If the Senate bill is the "best" we can hope for with this Congress and this President, if giving massive new wealth to large corporations at the cost of middle class tax payers is the only way to get reform, then Democrats will stay home in 2010, 2012 and years to come. Passing this reform will be a Pyrrhic victory for Democrats.
The White House and the DNC criticised Creigh Deeds for moving too far right and ignoring the base. What are they doing now?
update:
People seem to be missing the point. If a Democratic Congress and White House acts exactly like a Republican Congress and White House, why would people turn out to vote? Did anyone read the last sentence? Does that mean insuring more people is bad? No. It means getting to that end result the way Republicans would have gotten there is bad.
