Had an encounter today with some very young LaRouche supporters outside my bank.
What drew me to their little rinky dink card table was a large poster of the President with a Hitler moustache - - WTF?!!
According to these energetic dudes, who were probably in their early 20's, global warming "hysteria" is being engineered by the US and the British Monarchy to scare the crap out of people and somehow reduce populations.
Population control seemed to be the key focus for these two gentlemen, er - dudes.
I, of course, being an uninsured cancer survivor in deep, scary debt wanted to discuss health care. Whoo boy! After giving them my two cents about health care, reform and a public option (Okay I really wanted Single Payer, but anywho) the younger fella, who looked kind of like Ted from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, happily stated that he also had no health insurance. I asked what he would do if he got sick or injured - blank stare. I'm guessing he's never been sick or injured.
He kept going back to global warming and then started talking about NASA and a Mission to Mars and going back to the moon, and that after Kennedy died funding for NASA was slowly eroded away, which led to the end of the moon landings and the complete abandonment of a mission to Mars. He posited that we would have much less unemployment if the US government rebuilt NASA and got back to space exploration. 400,000 jobs could be created.
I couldn't quite get a straight answer about health care, which was all I really cared about. What he alluded to is that if the government funneled money into landscaping and pumping purified ocean water inland for irrigation and shot some astronauts into outer space health care would become a reality.
Someone, anyone, who is this LaRouche and why were these dudes so focused on outer space and Obama as Hitler and planting trees across the hills and valleys?
I was far too polite standing there as long as I did. When I got home I checked out LaRouche on Wiki and was less than impressed. I was also not happy to learn he targets college aged youths to do his trolling. Not that I have anything against being politically active, but not getting any kind of cohesive, structured answers from these dudes just left me walking away frustrated. I felt like I got snippets of information about many subjects, but no real, tangible way to fix them, kind of like the Republicans healrh care plan.
Any thoughts?
