I've laughed at how ridiculous AP has become, how right-wing they are, how they twist everything to show President Obama and/or the Democrats in the worst possible light.
But they've hit bottom with this one.
Wanda Sykes has been selected to be the comedian for the White House dinner, the one where Colbert eviscerated both Bush and the press corps. Who can ever forget his brilliance?
On Bush:
I stand by this man. I stand by this man because he stands for things. Not only for things, he stands on things. Things like aircraft carriers, and rubble, and recently flooded city squares. And that sends a strong message: that no matter what happens to America, she will always rebound—with the most powerfully staged photo ops in the world.
On the press:
But, listen, let's review the rules. Here's how it works. The President makes decisions. He's the decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Just put 'em through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration? You know, fiction!
It was wonderful! It was truth being told to power. And those "powers" didn't like it one bit. In a textbook case of being "reactionary" they went with the safest, most innocuous comedian the following year, Rich Little. He was bland and inoffensive. It was a classic, showing that "they" weren't going to take being told the truth! So there!
And now Wanda Sykes will do the honors, in a slightly different world. Same press corps, different administration. And yet the AP has this paragraph today:
Sykes, who booked the gig this week, said the idea of performing for such a high-profile crowd is "scary but very exciting." The dinner has tripped up comedians before. Rich Little and Stephen Colbert both provoked criticism of their performances before the crowd.
I sit here in disbelief. Tonight I don't think they are primarily pushing their agenda. Tonight I think they are just plain stupid. No reasoning capability there.
I can't wait until they go out of business!!
