It's really quite pathetic when your party doesn't stand FOR something but rather touts its ability to stand AGAINST something, and to do it so completely is truly astounding.
What the hell does that say about YOUR PARTY when your only hope for success is the failure of the entire country?
I think it's a damn shame that the Republican Party is proud to be a party that is refusing to put a good faith effort into fixing the problems that THEY had a large part in creating.
I could see if they really put forth ideas that were DIFFERENT from the ones they used which got us into this mess in the first place but they didn't.
Not only that, but they pretty much spit in the face of a President who doesn't necessarily NEED them to get what he wants done, DONE. A President who is not losing any capital for his efforts, but instead is maintaining and maybe gaining support for his efforts.
I'm not a ranter around here, that's typically not my thing, but there is something about the "opposition" party being so proud of its ability to NOT DO ANYTHING. I mean these fools are sending out videos talking about "The House GOP is back."
Then there's the failed John McCain't running around talking about how Obama is so called "getting off to a bad start." Really? I think Obama has done exactly what he said he was going to do. He reached out to a party who had no intention of accepting it because it's too busy taking obstructionist advice from Newt Gingrich. Where is Gingrich again? Oh that's right, nowhere. He has an occasional television appearance, but who really cares what he's doing? That's real smart, taking advice from someone irrelevant to try to save yourselves from irrelevancy. When they aren't taking advice from Newt, they are modeling themselves after the Taliban. To borrow a phrase from Weekend Update "REALLY?"
And then those people have the AUDACITY to go around like they actually VOTED for the bill or showed ANY support for it. It will be funny to see them all eat crow when the Recovery and Reinvestment Act (coupled with whatever else President Obama deems necessary) WORKS.
Even Conservatives are seeing how DUMB this Republican't strategy is.
A Gallup poll taken last week found twenty-eight per cent of Republican voters (and fifty-six per cent of independents) backing the stimulus. It had the support not only of the labor federations but also of the National Association of Manufacturers and the United States Chamber of Commerce. And four Republican governors--California's Arnold Schwarzenegger, Connecticut's Jodi Rell, Florida's Charlie Crist, and Vermont's Jim Douglas--joined fifteen of their Democratic colleagues in signing a letter calling for its enactment. A Republican governor, you might say, is sort of like a Republican congressman--except with actual responsibilities.
Well, the Republicans can feel free to continue their descent into irrelevancy as far as I'm concerned. We have bigger things to worry about besides a high profile temper tantrum.
[President Obama:] My priorities for the rest of the year. Number one is to get the right structure for the successor to TARP; spending the $300-some billion that has already been authorised as wisely as possible, and injecting transparency and trust into the financial system. Having a housing program that provides relief to people who are at risk of losing their homes. Financial regulations that ensure that the crisis doesn't happen again. A innovative and aggressive push for health care reform that focuses not just on access but also on costs, and trying to just provide relief to working families. And a push for an energy policy that puts us on a path to sustainability.

UPDATE
So I was looking through the slideshow on the Whtie House Website about the stimulus and ran across this:
Now the picture isn't all that remarkable, it's one of the many times President Obama talked with republicans. What got me to LOL was the caption:
Jan. 27, 2009: House Republicans surround the President after the meeting. Many of them were seeking his autograph. Every House Republican eventually voted against the bill.
HA! Way to subtly point out how fake Republicans are, and who's REALLY in charge around here. . .
