How many have gotten e-mails over the last several weeks with the following titles?
"2008: An Election Map"
...Whereupon some person that believes he can, with the grace of some facts, figures, and a pretty red and blue map, show that Democrats are evil criminals and Republicans are god fearing individuals that REALLY DID win the election...
"Ice Cream and the Election: An Analogy"
...Whereupon some person that wants to make an imbecilic rant about how Democrats are small children, incapable of making important tough decisions and would much rather have ice cream**...
"British Commentary on Obama Presidency"
...Good lord. One has to read the vitriol to wonder where this stuff comes from...
"HOW TO BE A GOOD DEMOCRAT"
...Upon which some individual, who has obviously overdosed on what R Limbo is taking at this time, spews forth most of the talking points on what they think we think like...
I'll let you all google for these if you actually want to read them. I'm sure many of you could send titles I did not put out here.
To all those neocons and uninformed personages who write to us, I offer up this return rant - please disperse as you see fit.
** I do like Ice Cream, by the way.
An open letter to the Neo-Cons:
For the past eight years, every time Bush and his republican thugs passed one disastrous policy after another, whenever there was any complaint from my side, your side said things like "We won the election, get over it." You people also said "It's unpatriotic not to stand by the President." and my personal favorite, "If you don't like it, you can always go move to another country." (I have a few friends who, in fact, did become expatriates during the Bush regime; I hope one day soon they feel it's safe to come back...) Whenever we questioned whether we were being lied to by our government about why they needed so desperately to listen in on our private phone conversations, it was "Why do you hate America so much?" When we protested against an unnecessary and illegal war it was "Either you're with us or you're with The Enemy." Through all this, you neo-conservative pundits told us we must stand by our President because he won the election so he gets to be "the decider".
Well, we've had another election, and we've "decided":
Here are the facts:
Obama won by a clear majority of the popular vote, 53%. In doing so, he won by a stronger percentage than any other President since Ronald Reagan. Over 2 million Americans attended his inauguration. There were NO protesters. I'll repeat that: None. Zero. (by contrast, Bush's motorcade was pegged with eggs on his way to the 2000 inauguration, at which he only had something like 67,000 supporters attending, with almost twice that many people on hand to protest) Obama entered office with close to an 80% approval rating. That's even higher than Reagan's was at the time. We Americans want him to succeed! Everyone, that is, except that waste of human flesh Rush Limbaugh, who exclaimed (probably while in a drugged-out stupor from his Oxycontin addiction) that he hopes Obama fails - somebody should tell him that's unpatriotic and that he should move to another country if he doesn't like the man who We the American People have chosen be our leader for at least the next 4 years. Good riddance, I hope he runs away to Argentina with the rest of the war criminals.
Obama and the Democrats in the House and Senate have accomplished more in their first week than Bush did in eight years: women now have equal pay in the workplace, torture is now officially a war crime once again, we are committed to working toward digging ourselves out of the financial mess that the previous generation got us into through their unbridled greed and deregulation. Also, millions of Americans are once again proud of our country and not ashamed of it as we have been for the past eight years. We have once again affirmed that We The People are our government, and that the big corporate interests aren't able to buy our vote anymore. Sorry if that's a bitter pill to swallow for those of you who have been on the corporate dole for so many years, but as Mussolini said so many years ago, a government that answers to corporate interests is the definition of Fascism. No longer will we let Halliburton dictate what wars we choose to fight. No longer will we let the healthcare lobby write our prescription drug laws. No more will we let Big Oil and Big Tobacco tell us that we need to continue using up 25% of the world's resources and causing 75% of the world's pollution problems because carcinogens are, in fact, good for our health.
In short, We The People have voted to take our country back.
So let me echo the sentiment I heard from you people for the last 8 years: Elections have consequences. We won. Get over it. You people had your chance to govern, you screwed it up big-time. Stop complaining, be a patriot, stand by our President like you told us to do for the past 8 years, and give him every bit as much support as you did Bush. Otherwise you're Un-American. Why do you hate America so much?
