Obviously we are in the middle of a huge showdown over the recovery package, so we should devote the majority of our energy to the task at hand. We should not start eating each other as the plane is going down. Maybe we can still salvage this thing (not looking good, but we should try).
But if this does end soon, with a crappy bill being passed. A bill that has more tax cuts than anything else. Well there is one and only one thing that I hope happens. There is one and only one lesson we should draw from this pathetic debacle.
I plan to call both my Democratic Senators and say...
The Democratic Caucus in the Senate has failed us too many times. How the hell can they do so poorly when they have a 58 vote majority? Whatever happened to hardball?
We should not be complaining that the Republicans have 41 votes, so we can't get anything we want. The Republicans should be complaining that WE have 58 votes (soon to be 59) so THEY can't get anything done!!! We are supposed to have more power when we get a huge majority.
The problem is that the Dems in Congress are spineless cowards. Not all of them, just certain members of the leadership. Specifically Harry Reid.
He's been our leader for a good 6 years now, going on 7. And he has been an utter failure. A weakling, a pathetic little nothing who allowed himself to be beaten up by The Republicans, by Lieberman, by Bush. Whenever any idiot so much as raised their voice at him, Reid threw himself on the ground and surrendered like a beaten dog.
It's time to get rid of Reid. He had 6 years as our leader in the Senate, that's a pretty good run. We were very patient, he needs to be GONE.
We should call our Democratic Reps and Senators (obviously the Reps in the House don't have any real say on this, but I guess I'll call them anyways, why not? haha I'm mad about this and I want all the Dems in Congress too know so they'll negotiate harder next time). But when we call them, I humbly suggest that we ask for only one thing, plain and simple.
Call for a vote for a New Majority leader in the Senate!!!!!!!!!
Right now Durbin is in line to probably get the job, and I think he'd do pretty good, better than Reid anyways. Durbin has shown a little more spine and a LOT more eloquence than Reid. Reid whispers every word out his mouth for Pete’s sake! He doesn't even know how to raise his voice, much less negotiate! Durbin was one of the very first supporters of Obama, and he also served side by side with Obama as the other Senator from Illinois, so they have a close relationship. Durbin would work much more closely with Obama and probably be better able to get things done anyway.
It's time to dump Reid like last weeks Garbage.
