A letter from a concerned parent to her daughter's 6th grade social studies teacher
Mr. Teacher,
It has come to my attention that in Social Studies class you are teaching the children that a Republican President, Teddy Roosevelt, was responsible for trust-busting because "Roosevelt believed that corporate monopolies were bad for the American people". How dare you accuse a Republican of putting the interests of everyday citizens over those of corporate America!!!!!
Less than 100 years later, our beloved St. Ronald Reagan saw the evil of regulating corporate bloat, and initiated a policy of corporate deregulation that continued over 20 years into this century. Thank goodness for him!!! Those corporations needed to become big and powerful so that capitalism could succeed. As a result, today we taxpayers enjoy the warm feeling that comes from knowing that our tax dollars will be used to bail out corporations that have become too big to fail without putting the nation in critical danger. Long live capitalism!!
So you see, it simply makes no sense that a Republican president would EVER inflict such harm on the American people as to engage in trust-busting.
Furthermore, it appears that you have allowed my child to learn that the federal income tax system, the most heinous scourge ever inflicted on American citizens, was the work of a Republican administration! Have you no shame???!!!! You are teaching children that REPUBLICANS RAISE TAXES!!!!!! What in the world are you thinking???!!!! This is as crazy as allowing Americans to think that Democrats would lower taxes.
Next thing I know we'll be finding out, for example, that Socialist President B. Hussein Obama and his Demoncrat majority actually lowered payroll taxes on the working class. Americans would never stand for it!! No good conservative will be able to accept a paycheck like that. You watch, conservative Americans throughout the nation will be burning their paychecks before accepting such hypocrisy.
At the turn of the 20th century two-timing TR said "Speak softly and carry a big stick." Today we KNOW that speaking softly is for wimps, and the BIG STICK is everything. Just look at how well this policy worked out for G.W. Bush. If he hadn't used his big stick instead of diplomacy we'd have thousands more live US soldiers roaming this nation, probably doing terrible things like protecting our borders and voting in their own best interests. Mr. Bush has an undergraduate degree in history! He got a C average!!! He knew exactly what he was doing.
I wonder if your so-called history book has other exaggerations in it, such as glorifying the labor movement as providing decent working conditions and livable wages. I'd hate to look.
Mr. Teacher (if that is your real name), please cease teaching such blasphemous material to my child. It is activist teachers like you who threaten to give the highly moral Republican silent majority a bad name. If such hypocrisy continues, I will be forced to home skool my daughter so that she will have access to proper revisionist history.
Sincerely,
Nancy Meyer
