There are headlines out today about food safety...and the lack of. E. coli Season and Obama Targets Food Safety
I'd just like to share with you what local families are doing here in our area. We've joined a new Food Co-op startup group. There are 35 members signed up in the past couple of months. Sharing is good and it works.
We order local organic produce and wholesale groceries that you would normally buy at stores like Whole Foods. Each Tuesday we submit our orders, splitting cases between the members and other bulk items. On Friday we pick up our orders.
I just filled our small freezer with a quarter of a beef from a local farm. This is all grass fed, healthy and hormone free cows. They also provide healthy local dairy products and eggs. Just about the only thing I go to the grocery store for these days are my husbands favorite popcicles. It keeps me clear of impulse buys and extra trips. I'm starting a store of extra canned goods etc as well. We can order paper products, personal items and pet food.
You can look for groups in your area at this link Healthy food access near you Or look into opening your own wholesale food co-op. Just searching online for resources in your state will start you out.
This works on so many levels: you save money, you support organic and local farmers, the food is healthier. It's easier than you think.
Keep it simple.
