From the AP:
Former President George W. Bush will throw out the ceremonial first pitch on Opening Day for the Texas Rangers.
It was only a year ago when Bush threw out the first pitch at the Washington Nationals' new ballpark. He was booed by thousands on national TV (it gets good about 30 seconds in):
And it wasn't just ESPN's cameras that caught the booing, here's a video from a fan who was there:
(Sorry, I can't get enough of this, even one year later.)
The question I have is, can the Texas Rangers fans top this? Please? I know the odds are against this, as Texas voted for Bush twice and Bush is a former governor of Texas (and former owner of the Texas Rangers). But it would be so awesome if Rangers fans did boo.
If any of you are Rangers fans, go do your part and boo.
Contrast that to Barack Obama, who I'm guessing will be getting a much different reception if he throws out the first pitch this year somewhere. He already has a standing invitation to throw the first pitch for the White Sox and the Nationals (they're on different days, so it could work), but I couldn't find anything to confirm he'd be there at either day.
Obama has thrown the ceremonial first pitch for the White Sox before, at Game 2 of the ALCS in 2005. Here's a couple of pictures:
Opening Day is a week from today. Here's hoping we get to see Bush booed and Obama cheered.
