These polls are totally, unscientific, I understand, but with the latest job news, I was interested in seeing if there was a way to make more concrete these large abstract numbers that seem so hard to process.
We have a real mix in my family. I work for a company in the financial sector in New York City (no, I am not a stock broker, trader, financial planner, executive or anyone else with any authority to make or influence any of the decisions that lead to this mess!). I haven't been laid off yet. But every day I walk into work wondering if it's going to be my last. My mom is a middle school teacher with 30 years of experience in a county a "last-fired-first-fired" clause in its contracts. Her job will survive anything short of the collapse of the entire US government. My brother is self-employed. Half of his clients have vanished. He's his only employee, so he doesn't have to lay anyone off, but he needs to find a second job himself at this point, and there aren't any to be had.
I'm wondering how my fellow Kossaks are holding up during the crisis. What's the general state of the Kossak community?
