Well, not all are bellydancers - we have some Code Pinkers and other progressives who plan to participate - but it got your attention.

We're staging a colorful demonstration at the Federal building to let our Congressmembers know that we want single-payer healthcare.
Seattle Kossaks, if you can be downtown at noon tomorrow, please join us!

As you know, single-payer healthcare systems (as in Canada) are systems in which care is based on need, not on ability to pay. No one is left out.
Among the demonstrators are myself, Dina Lydia, and international bellydance star Delilah of Visionary Dance Studios, famed in Seattle for her contingent of dazzling dancers every year at the Solstice Parade.
We know 7th District Rep. Jim McDermott is a longtime leader in health care insurance reform, but other Washington Reps and Senators - not so much.
As I understand it, two bills are pending in the House (Conyers, McDermott) and one in the Senate (Bernie Sanders).
The half-page flier at left is a downloadable PDF on the link above.
Washington Public Campaigns, for whom I do the website, has been involved in this issue lately because it's closely related to their issue, publicly funded election campaigns (Fair Elections Now Act in Congress). See WPC blog: Real health care reform needs fair elections. This would lessen or end the influence of the HC insurance lobby.
This is timely, because Washington State is about to cut 40 thousand people off the state healthcare plan although the waiting list is presently 14 thousand. WA Proposes Drastic Cuts to Basic Health Plan
I plan to participate, look fabulous, chat with passersby, hand out the flier, and maybe end up on the news for a couple seconds, making my opinion known.
