Even if you have cash to pay for medical services, the UC Davis Medical System will not accept you as a new patient if you don't have health insurance.
A family member without health insurance wanted to have a physical and routine tests. A call to the UC Davis Health System revealed that a "protocol" forbids their doctors from seeing new patients without health insurance, even if they are willing and able to pay for services. To me this is sad and scary. It seems to me that, of all health care providers, a system that is part of California's state government should be willing to serve citizens who can pay for services. Of course, I believe that health care should be available to all citizens, without regard to financial status, but to turn away citizens who are willing and able to pay seems gratuitously harsh.
