OK...so it has been two and a half months since the CA supremes heard arguments for and against the upholding of Proposition 8. Many legal experts agreed that the CA Supremes were most likely to uphold the proposition while at the same time rule that gay marriages performed during the short window, would remain legal.
I deduced that from the convincing arguments of these legal experts, that the CA supremes would rule right away and get it over with - that Prop 8 was indeed legal. Certainly, after watching the arguments live online, I felt the same way. I also felt disappointed at the weakness of the arguments of the gay rights lawyers; there didn't seem to be much passion or conviction in their arguments. I was especially disappointed with the performance of Senior Assistant Atty. Gen. Christopher Krueger, who argued that Proposition 8 should be overturned because it repealed an "inalienable right".
Well since most of these "experts" agreed that The California Supreme Court strongly indicated it would rule Proposition 8 as valid...why is it taking them so long to issue their final ruling? Could it be that so many other states have passed gay marriage since the March arguments? Could it be that the Supremes aren't really sure of how they'll decide? I wish I knew. No reason they HAVE to rule earlier, but it sure seemed like they want to get this over with. I'd love to think it means maybe their minds are not as made up as it appeared.
