Hello all. I thought I would take a minute away from the Iran and health care news to post a short non-political diary that will allow me to tap into one of the Kossacks' areas of expertise: technology.
I am a recent college graduate interested in starting a political website similar to Dailykos or TPM, although with a much more narrow focus. I do not want to say exactly what it will be about, for I am still developing the idea in my head. But basically it will be about exposing the Republicans for what they really are, i.e. their protecting of corporations and millionaires to the detriment of the rest of the country.
What I am asking for help on today is the actual building of the website...
My knowledge of technology and the developing and running of a professional website is quite limited. I have never taken a class on it nor am I one of those people who spends hours exploring the depths of my laptop. Technology was just never one of my main interests. However politics is, as is evident by my many years of posting on Dailykos. Therefore in the month of unemployment following my graduation, this idea of starting a political website kept popping into my head as a way to voice my opinion on several issues, more so than just posting random thoughts on here.
So this is where my friends in the blogosphere come in...how to actually start a website. Where is the best place to get a domain name and how much does it cost? What do I need to know about the actual 'mechanics' of running a site? Are their copyright laws I have to abide by (in regards to images/speeches/etc)? How do I advertise? How do I get advertising on my site? What else am I missing that I have not thought of yet?
Thank you all in advance.
