Inquiring minds want to know. His divorce is becoming final June 8 (although the records are sealed!!!).
A previous posting showed that a number of Koscovites would be interested in dating him once that happened.
Now that his road is clear to cave in to all the pressure Republicans have been putting on him to run for Obama's Senate seat in 2010, will he do it? Even conservatives who hate his positions on choice, stem cells, guns and the environment are salivating to donate to his campaign to snatch such a high-profile Senate seat.
Kirk has been Hamlet on this, however. According to his own polls, if Lisa Madigan ran for Senate instead of governor, she would beat Kirk by a mile. If Kennedy ran, it would be close. Everyone else on the Dem side scores below him in recognition and electability. But it looks like Madigan won't run for Senate and Kennedy is reluctant. But again, this is his poll and his kitchen cabinet is pretty cocky after winning five times.
Meanwhile, Kirk would face a tough fight in getting re-elected to the blue-but-independent 10th district in 2010 unless Obama's approval rating takes a nosedive. After redistricting, his seat would probably disappear, and he's tired of being in the minority in Congress.
So, he's looking for a national stage. Maybe Rahm Emmanuel should offer him a plum administration position to lure him away from the Senate race, thus breaking the Republican's slight hope for a victory on this symbolic seat. There's no one else in the wings.
UPDATE: The Kirk campaign announced that the divorce records are not sealed. Good. Who needs another Jack and Jeri Ryan debacle again? The campaign also said that Mark and Kimberly are still friends. Right.
