Today's New York Times reports that Obama's plan to stop issuing risk-free student loans through private lending institutions will save the Federal Government $87 Billion over 10 years. This is the kind of smart government and savings Republicans should applaud, if they really meant what they said about saving money and cutting deficits.
But OH NO! Lamar Alexander (multi-time losing Presidential candidate) says: "This effort by the Obama Administration for a Washington takeover of student loans is just one more example of a long line of Washington takeovers of banks, insurance companies, car companies, health care, that I totally object to."
He totally objects to the Federal Government saving $87 billion dollars.
We all know this hypocrisy when we see it, but it needs to be called out everytime. Republicans represent corporations, not people.
