First North Dakota Republican throws his hat into the ring this week to challenge long time Democratic Senator Byron Dorgan for his seat in 2010.
This is my first real diary so please bear with me.
Ripped from this weeks Bismarck Tribune http://www.bismarcktribune.com/...
Paul J. Sorum of Fargo who owns an architecture firm has thrown his hat into the ring with his announcement that he is going to run for the republican nomination.
Frankly I have no real clue on who this guy is other than driving by his company building once while going to visit my brother who live in Moorhead, Min.
As stated in the Bismarck Tribune article Sorum has raised no money and has never been in politics. So my gut feeling at this time Sorum maybe just a wingnut who wants to fight the Socialist Democratic Party in Washington.
This announcement puzzles me a bit because its kinda rare in North Dakota for a republican to just announce in the paper that he's running, because usually when someone in our Republican party wants a shot at a Senate seat, or our lone house seat they just say this early in the game that they are thinking about it.
This may lead me to think that some Republicans are worried that Gov. John Hoven may not run for Dorgan's seat in 2010.
I think North Dakota's 2010 election could shape up to be interesting because the leader of the North Dakotan republican party is planning to announce their candidates for House and Senate this September which is very surprising because usually the republicans announce their candidates 6 months before the elections.
This bump up in announcement date makes me think that they are going to go all out in 2010.
This diary is going to be my first in a series about our North Dakota delegation and politics. So keep in touch and I promise to hone my diary skills while writing my next entry.
