The following letter to the editor in a CT newspaper should be sent to all the Senators and Representatives, who think the current Healthcare System is just fine and dandy.
It's a classic form of Insurance Companies having no problem what-so-ever in taking your premium payments but when you finally submit a claim, they do all they can do in denying the claim.
Paul Krugman wrote a piece yesterday about the Six Hypocrites in The Senate and how they are "so concerned" about the cost of the 2009 Healthcare Legislation, yet these same Six Senators, except Lieberman, voted the wrong way to incorporate lower drug prices through the bargaining process.
And President Obama has finally decided to go after the Centrist Democrats who have basically been bought out by the Insurance and Big Phara Industries. IT'S ABOUT TIME!
Here is the letter about getting denied a claim after paying your premiums faithfully.
Coverage Denied
I have health insurance that I pay for myself — more than $400 a month for an individual policy ($1,500 deductible per occurrence).
I severely injured my left knee in December during a blizzard. It was so painful that I couldn’t walk. I had surgery Jan. 27. I spent three days in the hospital and rehabbed the knee with the help of a relative who is a physical therapist.
My insurance company — Golden Rule, a division of United Healthcare — has denied covering the surgery, claiming a “pre-existing condition” because I have arthritis.
I have had arthritis for 20 years; I have not had to have surgery for it. In fact, the only thing I take for the arthritis is over-the-counter medication.
This surgery was the direct result of a fall, and I have been denied any coverage at all — twice. I am only allowed to appeal twice: Thus, even though I have health insurance that I pay hefty monthly premiums for, I am treated as if I carried no health insurance.
The bills total more than $40,000 for three days of hospitalization, X-rays, and the procedure. Of course, I can’t pay that ridiculous amount of money out of pocket … that’s why I have insurance.
I have written to the Connecticut Insurance Commission, Sen. Christopher Dodd, Rep. Joe Courtney, and Attorney General Richard Blumenthal. Why should someone with health insurance be treated as if I was someone who “rolled the dice without health insurance” in the hope that nothing would happen to me?
We need a national health-care plan that covers all Americans. Our health-care system ranks below Costa Rica’s. And it’s not just the uninsured who are vulnerable. I thought I was covered up to $1 million for health-care costs. But I intend to fight all the way to the Supreme Court if I have to.
President Obama: Please save us. Those on the right who say we won’t have a choice of doctors or sub-par plans with a national program don’t know what they are talking about. We already don’t have a choice. Unless your doctor is “in network,” you can’t go to him/her.
Insurance companies are all about denying coverage. I know — I used to work in managed care, and I left the company because I could no longer sit around a table where insurance executives would discuss a way to deny paying a claim.
