I am looking to loose 30 lbs. I lost about 15 lbs last year. I gained most of the weight due to stress, irregular eating times and bad eating habits. The 50 lbs weight gain occurred inspite of being a vegetarian.
I have started doing regular exercises again since the last four months but finding it difficult to loose weight. Trying to find the balance between right amount of diet and exercise is difficult. I have maintained a weight loss diary and found that my food intake varied between 1600 to 2000 calories. If I go lower than 1600 calories, its doomsday in terms of energy levels, emotions etc. I cannot give up carbohydrates and I tend to eat about 200 gms of it. Being Indian by ethnicity, I find it difficult to give up on the Indian bread (roti) which is made out of whole wheat flour. If I reduce the intake I immediately feel drowsy, tired and depressed. On the other hand if I exercise more I feel hungry a lot more times leading to higher intake of calories. My work out schedule includes- 3 days of rigorous 45-60 minute cardio workout and 2 days of strength training. In addition, I take my dog for a walk. The length of the walk depends upon my work out schedule, thus on those days when I do strength training or no work out we walk for 3-4 miles other days its a short 1 mile walk.
I am trying to change my diet by increasing my protein intake. I am consuming more eggs and tofu. Will diary sometime in few weeks my experience with it.
I am trying to find out the link between weight loss/gain and eating carbs through rice/brown rice, whole wheat bread. I am not a big fan of mac and cheese or a pizza hoarder which reduces the bad carbs, fatty food considerably from my diet. My main guilty pleasure is ice cream but I try to limit the intake by not buying it in bulk quantities. So that I am not tempted in to eating more of it. I also try to buy the organic or low fat variety. Many a times I trick my taste buds by eating frozen yogurt.
Anyway, those are my current experiences - the diary is open to everyone to share their experiences, provide advice and support each other.
